El Rompido, Cartaya, Costa de la Luz, Andalucia, Spain
El Rompido
is 36 Hole golf resort, opened in 2003, is now ranked 15th best golf course
in Spain. There are two golf courses called the North and South with the
North being the newest edition. The real strength to both courses is the
natural beauty in which they sit. The local area is called El Paraje Natural
de las Marismas del Río Piedras (The natural park of stone river
marshes) delightful fir trees, estuary views of scrub, heather, marshes
and sea. The prevalent pungent smell of lemon pine played to a chorus
of croaking frogs make playing golf in this environment very enjoyable.
There is an abundance of wildlife, where herons and storks frequent. The
north course has an added addition with a few holes hugging a local Orange
grove plantation. These courses are a real rarity to most other southern
Spanish coastline courses, with ugly villa developments hugging the fairways.
90% of El Rompido courses have no development.
