Opened last June Greg Norman has completed his latest golf
course design at Portaventura, Salou, Costa Dorada (near Barcelona) Spain,
which have announced they are to hold their first major golf event the
European Father and Son Golf Championship held this year on Oct 27th –
Nov 1st. Over 200 father and sons will come from all over Europe to compete

Norman is said to be very pleased the course and recently
attended the course with a playing exhibition in front of the national
Spanish press.
The Norman designed North course is set up to USGA standards,
playing over 7200 yards from the championship tees. The course winds its
way around a natural wetlands reserve where lakes come into play on several
holes. Being so close to Barcelona airport and the fun tourist town of

Hamiltons ready
to defend their title of European Father and Son Golf Champions
Martin & Connor Hamilton of Lambourne Golf Course, Bucks
are eagerly awaiting to return to Portaventura GC, Spain this October to
defend their title of European Father and SonGolf Champions. Last
year the Hamiltons were in a thrilling finale where they held their nerve
to stave off follow father and son competitors from all over Europe to
win the inaugural championship. Connor at the time had only been playing
two years and in that time had managed to get down to a 9 handicap. Over
3 days and 54 holes Martin and Connor amassed an awesome 45, 40, 40 total
125 points to win by three over the Tremletts from Old Thorns GC.
“The first two days were all about Connor and I've never seen
him play better," said Martin, a dentist who lives in Slough with
wife Gayathri and his son. "We couldn't eat breakfast on the final
morning and things got a bit nervy over the first few holes of our final
round. Our shots were going one club further than normal because of the
adrenaline that was flowing but thankfully I managed to hole a few putts
to steady the ship and we got things back together. I've never known pressure
like it with the SKY TV cameras on us but we both played some good shots
at crucial times in the final few holes to see us home.I'm so proud of
Connor and it's hard to sum up what it feels like to have won. We came
out here to hopefully play some good golf and have a good time,
but the whole event has exceeded all our expectations. It's been a fantastic
week and we can't wait to come back and defend our title."
This years event is returning to the magnificent Greg Norman Portaventura Golf Resort
and will be held from the 27th October to 1st November played
over 54 holes. The event is open to any father son combination which includes
grandad & stepfather or professional with no age limit and handicap
restriction of 24 or below.
Tournament director Toby Marsden told us “last years event was
good but this year will be even better. Its a family fiesta where dads,
sons, mothers, sisters and grand parents will come from all over Europe
to have one of the best weeks of their lives. From the moment everyone
arrives we will be there waiting for them to transfer them to the hotel.
We provide a complete package from accommodation, transport, food and golf.
The event once again will be televised by SKYSports and other international
TV channels. The event is set up to give golfers a REAL tournament
experience with cameras, pin sheets, scoreboards, manicured course, 1st tee
announcers and referees. Its not to be missed!”
This year’s event costs £799pp & £699 for Juniors
with a £100 discount pp for Golf Newsreaders. Call RedGolf
